Today Marks 8 Years that i’m Alcohol Free. Hear me out and journey with me for a minute:

For my 30th birthday 8 years ago, I had a Guinness themed birthday celebration. (Now if you know me, you know that I LOVEEEE A GUINESS!! - Guinness is really big back home in the Caribbean. (For my bajan fam, you already know 🇧🇧 - and you know this about me)

In all seriousness though, when I moved to California everything slowed allll the way down. Living in New York : Being a bartender, editorial model, working full time as a retail store manager, being a nanny - it was all Alottttttt But this is New York we’re talking about.

I gained perspective in California. Why was I drinking like “that” or to that degree? I realized it wasn’t a coping mechanism as much as it was the joy of the taste - which can be even more dangerous. (Alcoholism looks different for everyone and it’s no judgement)

When I moved to Cali, my friend had her birthday on June 8th. I had a very heightened spirtual experience as I was sitting on the couch of the lounge where we were celebrating her birthday.

My higher conciousness said “This is it for you love. Your last drink.. atleast until you purge, cleanse and have the space to take on your reason for being on this earth: you’re here to guide people through their healing as the natural healer and abilities you have. You can’t heal them, they heal themselves, but you are the hand they carry through it all with the gift you were ushered into this lifetime with”

June 9th 2018 my life changed. It was a snowball effect from there.

Whatever direction I decide to go from here, a glass of wine here and there or continuing to remain on this ride of no consumption isn’t the focus - what I do know is that this 8 year journey was for all the reasons that have led me to where I am health wise today.

We all have our reasons for coping. Be kind and empathetic to each other. Life is a lot, I get it AND you do have choice.

I didn’t understand this at first. I used to try to control my reactions. Push them down. Tell myself to just be stronger.
But nothing really changed until I started listening instead of silencing.
Now when something triggers me, I pause. I close my eyes. And I ask a simple question.
What are you feeling right now.
And I wait.
At first it felt strange. But then I started noticing how quickly the answers come. Not in perfect words. More like feelings. Images. Memories.
And instead of judging it, I respond.
I’m here. You’re safe. I see you.
It sounds simple. But something shifts in that moment. The tension softens. The reaction loses its intensity.
Because a part of you finally feels heard.
This is what connection with your inner child feels like. Not forcing healing. Not fixing. Just being present with yourself in a different way.
The more you do this, the less you feel at war with yourself. And the more you start feeling whole again.
